Current situation and the need of relief items for the people affected by floods

As of today a total number of 74928 people are located at 366 safe houses, while a number of 177 deaths and number of 5711 damages to the properties are reported due to floods and landslides in Sri Lanka.

Therefore, the Ministry of Disaster Management in Sri Lanka has sought assistance to provide relief items that are required urgently for the flood victims. The list of items urgently required can be downloaded on  http://www.dmc.gov.lk

If any organization or well-wishers are willing to provide the above items, the items can be sent directly to the Ministry of Disaster Management in Sri Lanka. All consignments should only be addressed to the following:-

Monetary assistance for the people affected by floods and landslides

Dear All,

Due to heavy monsoon rain in Sri Lanka, several areas of the country have been affected by serious flooding and landslides. According to the Disaster Management Center, Sri Lanka, 61,000 people have been rendered homeless and 99 people have been killed while 100 are still not accounted for.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka has activated the ‘Emergency Response Unite’ to coordinate rescue and relief measures as required, based on the needs of the Disaster Management Center.
In this regard, the Embassy of Sri Lanka has created a mechanism to collect monetary assistance to help the victims. You are able to contribute monetary assistance to the people affected by flooding and landslides through the Embassy.

Minister Ravi Karunanayake assumes duties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Having received his appointment from President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday 22 May 2017, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ravi Karunanayake assumed duties  ​at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday morning, Thursday, 25 May 2017.

Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake was received at the Ministry, by ​the ​Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Esala Weerakoon​, senior staff of the Ministry, Ministers including the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and present Minister of Finance & Media Mangala Samaraweera, Parliamentarians and well-wishers.

​Following religious observances involving Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic and Christian dignitaries, the Minister officially assumed duties at the Ministry. More details
