Newly appointed Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Gothenburg, Sweden, Manjula Gurusinghe, received his Commission of Appointment from the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Sweden Kapila Fonseka in Stockholm, on 30th June 2026.
Ambassador Fonseka shared with the Honorary Consul Gurusinghe the expectations of the Government of Sri Lanka from the new Honorary Consulate office in Gothenburg including to promote and enhance trade, investment and tourism and to strengthen relations with the government and private sector entities in the region. The Honorary Consulate will also extend consular assistance to the Sri Lankan community in Västra Gotland and Halland regions.
The newly appointed Honorary Consul Gurusinghe is a physicist and technology professional with extensive expertise in semiconductor physics, advanced materials, and engineering. He earned his B.Sc. (Special) in Physics from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Gothenburg, with a tenure at Chalmers University of Technology, contributing to cutting-edge scientific and technological
advancements.
Having resided in Gothenburg for more than 25 years, Gurusinghe has established strong professional and community ties in both Sweden and Sri Lanka. Alongside his scientific career, he has been actively involved in Sri Lanka-focused social, cultural, and community initiatives, reflecting his enduring commitment to promoting the interests, heritage, and well- being of the Sri Lankan community.
