Certified copies of Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates through the E-BMD System
The e-BMD database contains Birth, Marriage, and Death certificates registered from 1 January 1960 onwards and through this system overseas Sri Lankans are able to obtain certified copies of their Birth, Marriage, and Death certificates through the Embassy expeditiously. Alterations made to a certificate after its initial update may result in a delay in updating the system. If a certificate is not found in the database, the applicant will be notified via email, and the application will be forwarded to the Register General Department in Maligawatta, Sri Lanka. The applicant will be informed of this action and it may take additional time to proceed such applications.
Documents required:
• An application for requesting certified copies of Birth, Marriage and Death certificates.
• A copy of the passport (Bio page)
• The applicant may substitute an individual to apply along with a letter of authorization with a clear signature and a copy of the bio page the passport Payments The Embassy does not accept payments made by cheques. If paid by the Debit/Credit Cards (Only VISA and Master cards) at the Embassy, bank commission of 1.5% will be added to the payment. Please note that according to the financial regulations of Sri Lanka, the fee paid will NOT be refunded.
Applicable Fee
- The fee for one certified copy is SEK 231
- Postage within Sweden – SEK 140 (single service fee)
- Postage outside of Sweden – SEK 180 (single service fee)
Important Notice
Please note that once documents or packages have been dispatched through postal services by the Embassy, the Embassy assumes no responsibility for any loss, delay, damage, or misdelivery that may occur during transit.Any claims, inquiries, or complaints relating to dispatched items must be made directly with the relevant postal service provider by the applicant.
Special Note – Denmark
Please note that the Embassy does not dispatch documents or packages to Denmark by post. Therefore, applicants are required to either collect their documents in person from the Embassy or arrange their own courier or postal service for the collection and delivery of documents.All costs, risks, and responsibilities associated with such courier or postal arrangements shall be the sole responsibility of the applicant.
