Ambassador Kapila Fonseka, Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Stockholm, Sweden
Ambassador Kapila Fonseka is a Grade I officer with twenty five years of experience in the Sri Lanka Foreign Service.
Kapila has served in diverse capacities both at home and abroad. He served as the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Melbourne, overseeing the States of Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania from May 2019 to June 2022. Previously, Kapila had assignments in India (Sri Lanka High Commissions in New Delhi), the UK (Sri Lanka High Commission in London) and Germany (Sri Lanka Embassy in Berlin).
In Colombo, he has served in the International Security Cooperation, Economic Affairs, Protocol, Public Diplomacy, South Asia and SAARC, UN & HR as well as Consular Affairs Divisions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Kapila has represented Sri Lanka in many capacities in regional and multinational fora including the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), Colombo Plan, and the Commonwealth. the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), Colombo Plan, and the Commonwealth.
Kapila published his first book “තුරු හිසින නික්මී” (Thuru Hisina Nikmi), a collection of poetry, in 2023.
Kapila is a graduate of the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He is married with two children.
