General Information
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Sweden provides following services in relation to Driver Licence to Sri Lankan citizens / dual citizens in Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania and Norway.
- Renewal of Driver Licence
- Issuance of Duplicates of Driver Licence for lost or damaged Driver Licence
- Change of Personal Details of Driver Licence
- Verification of the Driver Licence
Application Form
For Renewal, duplicates and change of personal details in your driver licence, you are required to submit “Application for Driver Licence MTA 30/2”. Application MTA 30/2 is ONLY available at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Stockholm. It can be obtained either at the counter of the Embassy or by post.
To obtain the application by post, please send an email to consular.stockholm@mfa.gov.lk under the subject ‘Request for Application for Driver Licence’. A total postage fee of SEK 230 (postage fee SEK 180+ cross border transaction fee SEK 50) is required to be paid to the Embassy in advance to obtain the application by post. Embassy bank details will be provided when a request for Application Form MTA 30/2 is received.
The MTA 30/2 application should be clearly filled in English letters within the cages in BLACK ink. Do not draft out of scanning area when filling the application.
Your application maybe rejected in the events of the following:
- Incomplete application / lack of all required supporting documents
- Using photo copied application forms
- If anything is written outside the border of the application form
- If colour or incorrect size photograph is submitted (ONLY BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOS OF 35mmx45mm WILL BE ACCEPTED
How to Apply
Applying at our counter:
- To submit the application at the counter, you must obtain a prior appointment through the Embassy website.
- It is mandatory for applicants to provide biometrics (fingerprints) in submission of application in the presence of an Embassy official.
- It is mandatory to submit the original Driver Licence to the counter (if not LOST) at the time of submission of the application for the above services.
Applying via post:
- If you are not residing within the Stockholm district limits you can submit your application for above services of the driver licence by post.
- It is mandatory for applicants to provide biometrics (fingerprints) in submission of application in the presence of an authorized notary public OR a Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka (Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Sweden (Gothenburg) & Norway (Bergen & Kristiansand).
- Please also ensure that the signature of the applicant is also attested by the notary public OR a Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka.

Renewal of Driver Licence
Required documents
- Duly filled MTA30/2 Application From (obtained from the Embassy). Please complete the application using a black colour pen. Do not draft out of scanning area when filling the application. Fingerprint and signature has to be placed in front of the authorized officer at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Stockholm OR if you are applying via post in the presence of a Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka (Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Sweden (Gothenburg) & Norway (Bergen & Kristiansand) or an authorized notary public in your country of residence.
- Two black and white passport size photographs (3.5 c.m. x 4.5 c.m.) [Glasses, hats or caps should be removed
- Current Driving Licence issued by Department of Motor Traffic Sri Lanka with a photocopy.
- Medical Certificate in English issued from the country of residence (not less than three (03) months old). Documents issued by in other languages should be submitted with an authorised English translation.
- National Identity Card (N.IC.), if available.
- Valid Passport or copy of the data page of the Passport certified by the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka or notary public in your country of residence.
- Copy of the Valid Residence Permit certified by the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka or notary public in your country of residence.

- Driving License fee SEK 1104
- Postage fee SEK 360
- Administrative Fee SEK 100
- Total SEK 1564
- Delayed surcharge SEK 105 (per year)
All Photocopies Should Be Submitted in A4 Size. Copies of both sides of each certificate/ card should be submitted. For passports; copies of the bio-data page and the observation page should be submitted.
Verification of driver license
Verification of Driver Licence
Required documents:
- Applicant’s request letter addressed to the Commissioner General, Department of Motor Traffic of Sri Lanka.
- Current Driving License issued by Department of Motor Traffic Sri Lanka with a photocopy.
- National Identity Card (N.IC.), if available
- Valid Passport or copy of the data page of the Passport certified by the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka or notary public in your country of residence.
- Copy of the Valid Residence Permit certified by the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka or notary public in your country of residence.

Cross border transaction fee : SEK 50
Total : SEK 678

Lost or damaged driver license
Issuance of Duplicates of Driver License for Lost or Damaged Driver Licence
- Duly filled MTA30/2 Application From (obtained from the Embassy). Please complete the application using a black colour pen. Do not draft out of scanning area when filling the application. Fingerprint and signature has to be placed in front of the authorized officer at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Stockholm OR if you are applying via post in the presence of a Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka (Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Sweden (Gothenburg) & Norway (Bergen & Kristiansand) or an authorized notary public in your country of residence.
- Copy of the complaint made to the police station of the applicant’s resident country in English, attested by the Foreign Ministry of the resident country OR blurred or damaged driver licence.
- Two black and white passport size photographs (3.5 c.m. x 4.5 c.m.) [Glasses, hats or caps should be removed.
- Current Driving Licence issued by Department of Motor Traffic Sri Lanka with a photocopy.
- Medical Certificate in English issued from the country of residence (not less than three (03) months old). Documents issued by in other languages should be submitted with an authorised English translation.

Change of Personal Details of Driver Licence
Required documents

- Request Letter by the applicant addressed to the Commissioner General, Department of Motor Traffic of Sri Lanka
- Evidence documents related to the change made, i.e. Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Divorce Certificate etc. for the name change and resident certificate for address change.
- Current Driving License issued by Department of Motor Traffic Sri Lanka with a photocopy.
- National Identity Card (N.IC.), if available.
- Valid Passport or copy of the data page of the Passport certified by the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka or notary public in your country of residence.
- Copy of the Valid Residence Permit certified by the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka or notary public in your country of residence.
